How far is Starfish Blue from the Nadi International Airport (NAN)?
After your flight arrives at the Nadi International Airport, there are no other flights or ferries to arrange. Either hire a car, or arrange ahead to have Suncoast Taxis and Tours to meet your flight. Starfish Blue is a scenic 2.5 hours drive from the airport. You have to go a bit slow for all of the animals and people that walk along the road, but it’s worth the journey. You’ll see a side to Fiji that many visitors miss.
How can we get there?
You can either rent a 4 wheel drive car at the Nadi airport, (driving is on the left-hand side) or arrange transport with Suncoast Taxis and Tours. Sun Coast Taxis will meet you outside of customs with a sign with your name on it, arrange for key pick up, and deliver you to our house, all for slightly less than a taxi from Nadi. The benefit for you is that they are a local company and know Starfish Blue so there is no risk of them getting lost. The owner of Suncoast Taxis and Tours, Jai Ram, manages Starfish Blue, and provides a seamless transition. They are only a phone call away during your stay at Starfish Blue, and have a range of tours available. Email Jai at firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
If you decide to rent a car while at Starfish Blue, Iguana Car Rental is in town and rents 4 wheel drives.
What is provided at Starfish Blue?
We know you’ve traveled a long way and we’ve tried to think of everything to make your holiday an enjoyable and relaxing one. We provide beach and bath towels, linens, all sorts of kitchen items from plates and glasses to a blender and a panini maker, gas grill, CD player, and two TV’s with Sky Satelite TV and a selection of DVD’s. We also have a phone for keeping in touch with loved ones and Wananavu has internet connection for a fee. We also provide a USB stick for internet connection if you bring your laptop, with a FJD$20 card to get you started. If you require extra time, cards are available in town.
If traveling with a baby, we offer a crib (cot.) There is a washing machine (we ask that you dry your clothes on the line out back unless it’s raining but we do have a dryer in a pinch) and even snorkel gear. We only provide masks and snorkels, to snorkel off from our property you will need reef shoes as it’s very rocky.
Is there a sandy beach nearby?
Our beach area is rocky. It’s actually a grassy hill that does down to the sea. There are sandy beaches nearby.
Is it possible to hire additional help?
We provide maid service, if you want it, (and not everyone does, so it’s perfectly fine to opt out of it for the whole time or as you would like) Monday through Friday for 2 hours a day. The maids can also cook for you or watch your children. You will pay the maids directly for any additional services you would like. The rate is FJD$5/hour. See Dining for meal options cooked for you at Starfish Blue.
Are there grocery stores nearby?
Yes, in town, there are 4 or 5 grocery stores, a bread store, and an open air market. The maids can also tell you where to get fresh fish. There is a butcher shop in Lautoka for beef, which is not found in Rakiraki. If you are using Suncoast Taxis and Tours for transportation, they can arrange a stop at the butchers.
What should I bring?
The area in front of our house is rocky, so if you want to access the water from the house, you will want reef shoes. A selection of CD’s of your favorite music is a good idea.
